Your Fitness Weak Link is… Lack of Cardio
Why does cardio fitness matter?
Put simply, your cardiovascular system is what keeps you alive. A poor cardiovascular system will lead to decreased energy and a shorter life .
On the flip side, a strong cardiovascular system will help you live longer and give you tons of energy.
So, now you know cardio is your weak link.
Here’s What To Do Next
The solution for lack of cardio is really simple: Get moving. Every little bit counts!
Go for a daily walk and find ways to sit less or take frequent breaks from sitting. Walking is one of the most underrated forms of cardio and is a great place to start.
Track your daily steps and shoot for a minimum of 5,000 steps per day, or about 2 miles. Ideally, you want to drive that step count up north of 8k or maybe even 10k depending on your goals.
If you are sedentary ( <5000 steps a day), I would argue more movement is your #1 health priority, even more important than sleep or nutrition!
But Don’t Make This Mistake!
While getting activity levels up from baseline is step one, you also want to make sure you’re doing the right type of cardio training for your goals.
Not all cardio training is created equal!
I see so many men over 40 make the mistake of crushing high intensity exercise workouts in the hopes that it will magically increase their cardio fitness and transform their bodies. Most of them get hurt or aren’t consistent enough for the body to change.
And that’s only 1 type of cardio training. You have to be smarter with your cardio training.
You have to make sure you are training all energy systems in the body – this comes from doing different levels of intensity and varying the length of workouts.
You also have to make sure your joints and muscles are strong enough for cardio training so that you don’t get injured.
There are quite a few moving parts that you need to get right — and as a big thank you for taking my quiz, I want to offer you a free cardio consult that will help you put all the pieces together.
